Sunday, Mar. 22 | 12:30 pm - 2:00 pm | Parish Hall / Zoom (bit.ly/STJNFaith) -
Formally established in August 2025, the Faith & Democracy Ministry at St. John’s works to respond constructively and actively to the current threats to our democracy, based on our Christian and Episcopalian faith. Our goal is to provide opportunities for prayer, education and action based on recent statements from Episcopal Church leadership and the policy positions of The Episcopal Church. (Read a full ministry description.)
As Bishop Marianne said in a recent post, “At a time when some of the loudest Christian voices belittle empathy and advocate a dangerous alliance with the forces of authoritarianism, I feel it is essential to offer an alternative witness, honoring the dignity of every human being, treating our neighbors with mercy and kindness, and engaging in public discourse with courage, for the common good. We all need to relearn how to speak with one another across differences respectfully and insist that our leaders uphold the ideals of our nation and abide by the rule of law.” The Faith & Democracy Ministry seeks to “uphold the ideals of our nation and the rule of law,” as a matter of our faith.
Since its inception, the Ministry has hosted three educational webinars covering the topics of faith and political engagement, Christian Nationalism, and trends in the political and faith engagement of American youth. A fourth is being planned for April 12 with Congressman Jamie Raskin on whether the Establishment Clause of the Constitution guaranteeing the separation of church from state is being compromised, and if the guardrails anticipated by our forefathers are holding. Additional topics for future webinars are also under review and consideration.
JOIN US ON SUNDAY, MARCH 22 from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm for a more in-depth review and discussion of work underway and planned by the Faith & Democracy Ministry at St. John’s, and ways that you can get involved.
